One of the big things flying across the battlefield right now between the democrats is that Obama wouldn't be where he is today if he weren't black. This bothers me more than a little. African-Americans are a minority, especially when it comes to the voting public. If only black people were voting for Mr. Obama he would have been out of the race a long time ago. To add to that, not every black person is going to vote for him, just like not every woman is voting for Hilary Clinton. A few female friends of mine that generally vote republican were actually considering asking for a democratic ballot simply so they could vote against Mrs. Clinton. In the end the problem I have with an accusation in either direction is that simply having the support of your own sex or ethnic background does not a winner in the primaries make, let alone the presidential election itself. If that were the case then we would likely not be seeing these two as possible nominees. The larger amount of the voting public as far as I know is still white males over the age of 30. If voting lines were only drawn in this fashion, neither of these candidates would have even been a thought. But here we are, close to a nomination and we have two minorities as viable candidates for president. That makes me think accusations like this are total bullhockey.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again; we are witnessing a very important election that is of historic significance. None of the current candidates has even been vice president, one could be the oldest president in the history of our nation, one could be the first African American president, another could be the first female president. Either way something that has never happened before is going to happen. Let's make another first, put the bull aside and elect the person that we think is best suited to do the job, not because they're old, young, black, white, purple with green polka dots, male, female, whatever. Let's be the nation that we want the world to think we are, forward-looking, progressive and color-blind when it comes to races.
